Molasses Home Style Cookies

In order listed, combine:
¾ cup cooking oil.    I use canola
1 stick margarine -  or butter – I use butter most of the time….margarine is just fine though.
1-l/2 cups brown sugar
½ cup dark molasses – unsulfured , Blackstrap is the Best choice.
2 eggs
1/8 teas. Cream of tartar
1 teas. Powdered cloves
2 Tab. Postum drink powder
1-l/2 teas. Baking  soda
½ teas. Baking powder
¼ teas. Salt
½ teas. Ginger
½ teas. Nutmeg
½ teas. Vanilla
4-l/2 cups unbleached flour

Mix very well in your mixer….Shape dough into balls using about 1-l/2 tablespoon……Roll into nice balls and then roll them
into a bowl of white sugar till coated.

Place 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheets………….
Bake at 400 for 5 minutes………use a timer.
Pull out the cookie sheet and gently flatten with back of a spatula with holes in it..( each cookie)
Little bit of dough will pop out and will give you that cracked look.
Return to oven and bake another 4 minutes…………….
Remove promptly.………let cool on sheets for 5 or 10 min……………
Gently put cookies on a cooling rack -  store in tight fitting container after they are cool……
The recipe says to use 400 degrees……….sometime, I use 375 degrees……..you can experiment……..they might look
undone when you first take them out of the oven, but as they cool, they set up just Right.  ( I prefer 375)……watch
them…ovens can be different.
